Supply Chain Shortages Hampering COVID-19 Testing Elicit Offer of Help from Laboratory Leaders

October 6, 2020 - AMT has again joined other lab organizations in urging the White House Coronavirus Task Force to provide greater transparency and federal coordination of SARS-2-CoV testing supply chains.

Nearly eight months into the COVID-19 public health emergency, the medical supply chain remains weak and laboratories still do not have the supplies needed to meet the testing needs of their communities. A coalition of laboratory professional organizations urges the Task Force to take bold action to encourage the manufacturing of COVID-19 test supplies and to transparently share information on the availability of supplies among the entire laboratory community. Until the federal government takes action, these shortages will persist, future surges in the pandemic will occur, and patients will continue to suffer.

The signing organizations, representing laboratory professionals from regional, community, academic, hospital, and public health laboratories, thank Vice President Pence for efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic that continues to threaten the United States. The letter asks the White House Coronavirus Task Force to provide transparency into the allocation and availability of laboratory supplies needed to respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The organizations offer readiness to partner on any efforts to facilitate the release and dissemination of this information.
