As we begin this new year, we are missing one of our long-time, active wonderful l members. Hattie Gallon, MLS (AMT) passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2023. Her service to GASSAMT as an officer, board member, mentor, delegate, and many other contributions made her irreplaceable to our society. We shall miss her smile, wisdom, and energy as we move forward.
Join us for our next meeting on April 20, 2024. It will be held in McDonough, GA. The registration and hotel information is available on our state society website. Our fall meeting will be held September 20-21, 2024 in conjunction with the Magnolia Educational Treasures meeting in Maitland, FL (Orlando area). We will be holding elections at this meeting so mark your calendars.
With the new national by-laws in effect, committees are working on updating GASSAMT’s by-laws and standard operation procedures. We plan to have the new by-laws ready for a vote at the September meeting. If you would like to work on either committee, please contact me.
At the April meeting, we will be electing delegates to the Annual Meeting in St. Louis. If you would like to serve as a delegate but will be unable to attend the meeting send me your information so I can put your name up for consideration. I need your name, certification(s), email address and cell phone number.
GASSAMT will be supporting Skills USA on both the state and national levels again this year. The state competition will be February 23, 2024, at the Georgia World Congress Center. If you would like to judge any of the competitions for subjects including medical assisting, dental assisting, or other medical-related areas, contact me and I will send you the information to sign up. The competitors are from high schools and technical schools from all over Georgia. The winners then go on to the national competition which will be held in June, also at the GWCC.
I hope the New Year is good for you and that we see each of you at one or more of our meetings. Join us for education, business, networking, and fun.
Peggy Oiler, MLS (AMT)
