President's Message

I hope everyone has had a joyful year thus far. We are very grateful for the people who through their professionalism, have kept us safe and healthy, while faced with the flu, COVID, and RSV. Many places have opened their facilities, but everyone please be safe and use protection as needed.

We had a spring meeting in April, and I would like to thank Rex Famitangco. His topics on resilience and inspection preparation were invaluable. I would also like to thank our two outgoing board members, April Trevizo, and Cindy Meyer. They have provided excellent service to the state society. With that, like to welcome our two new board members Lisa Gabaldon, as secretary, and Jennifer Trujillo, as Treasurer. Thank you for your support and giving of yourselves. We also discussed the upcoming bylaw revision that will be voted on during the annual business meeting. The fall meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 21, 2023, at Pima Medical Institute. I would like to thank the Pima Medical Institute and instructor Lisa Gabaldon for assisting in putting our meetings together. It is with her help that we obtained a location to hold our state meetings. Thank you very much.

The 2023 Annual Meeting is scheduled for July 24 – 28, 2023, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Virginia. Registration and program details are on the AMT website. The 2024 Annual Meeting is scheduled to be held in St. Louis, Missouri.

Starting this year, the MT discipline was transformed into Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS). The AMT Board endorsed the unification of the laboratory profession through nomenclature standardization. One of the key reasons is to unify the profession and provide one common voice for advocacy.

A reminder that annual dues will be going up next year. The MT (MLS), MLT, and MDT will be $110.00; the CLC will be $105.00; the RMA, RPT, RDA, PCT, CMAS, and CMLA will be $75.00, and the AHI will be $45.00. This is to help offset the increased cost of doing business.

I look forward to hearing from each one of you, our members, about what you would like to see as a topic and any input to improve our website. Hope to meet you in October this year.

Virgil E. Marchand, RMA
President, NMSSAMT
