President's Message

Welcome!

The North Carolina State Society of American Medical Technologists (NCSSAMT) invites you to become active in our professional organization. Below is some key information and activities that will assist you to become involved in continuing education and networking opportunities.

The North Carolina State Society has 4756 members as of January 30, 2020, that includes MT/MLT/ RMA/CMAS/RDA/RPT/COLT/CMLA certificants. Please make sure you keep all membership information up to date with AMT so that you may receive information and notifications concerning continuing educational opportunities and society business meetings.

This past month on March 21, 2020, the inaugural Virginia/North Carolina Clinical ColLABoration was to be held at the Tidewater Tech Trades Center in Norfolk, VA. However, it was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This was to be a joint meeting organized by Virginia State Society of AMT (VASSAMT) and our state society NCSSAMT. The program logo for our new joint meeting, was created by Jerry Johnson, MT and Vice-President of NCSSAMT, along with recommendations from each state society. We look forward to spring 2021 to hold the first joint meeting with our friends in Virginia. NCSSAMT Student Writing Awards were selected this spring and Winston-Salem State University students received the 1st and 2nd places.

Mark your calendars for the AMT 2020 Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, NM, July 13 – 16, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque. You can find meeting details on the AMT landing page, under Be Involved on this website. The registration, hotel, program, and other information can be found there. This year, national award winners from our state are; Jerry Johnson, MT – the Pillar Award and Rudy Crockett Jr. – The Friend of AMT. Our very own and much respected Southern District Councillor, Kaye Tschop, MT, will be awarded the highest honor given in AMT, the Order of the Golden Microscope (OGM). Congratulations to all of the national award winners! Thank you for your dedication and service to the state and national AMT organizations.

Our award-winning newsletter "The Tarheel Tech" is published twice a year and features state society news and articles. Please take time to read this publication posted on our NC State Society website. If you have articles or photos that you would like to submit, please forward them to our newsletter editor.

Please join us at our state and national AMT meetings. You truly will enjoy the experiences. AMT is the choice for certifying excellence in allied health, with the added benefits of networking opportunities and making lifelong friends.

These are unchartered times for all of us. I wanted you all to recognize that the profession that you have chosen is essential in battling this virus: from caring for patients and performing the tests to developing new test procedures and vaccines. Thank you so much for caring for others through your own dedication to your profession and humanity.

Enjoy your spring and summer while remembering social distancing, washing your hands, and not touching your face! Look at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/whats-new-all.html for the latest information. Stay safe!

Sincerely,
Georgia McCauley, PhD, MBA, MT
