As I write this, the flowering dogwoods, redbuds, and crabapple trees are a beautiful reminder that spring has arrived in WV. Spring usually means that WVSSAMT is planning for our spring meeting, but due to COVID, we are moving it to this fall. (Hopefully with enough vaccinations we will have herd immunity and it will be safe to get together again!) We are planning to hold the meeting at the Pierpont Advanced Technical Center in Fairmont – tentative date September 25, 2021. Your Board of Directors are working on five speakers on current topics, with a luncheon and business meeting to follow. We will also be electing officers this fall, so please make plans to attend. An Eblast will be sent to all WV members with details later this year.
I hope you are planning to celebrate National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 18-24, 2021. The theme is “Laboratory Professionals Get Results”, and this past year has really put the laboratory out front with COVID testing. Two other professional recognition weeks were also held in the first few months of 2021 – Registered Phlebotomy Week was held February 15-19, 2021, and National Dental Assistants Week was held March 7-13, 2021. Thanks to all of you who help to keep our patients healthy!
Just a reminder to be sure and record your CEs in AMTrax on the AMT website. This is a great way to show your employers that you are staying current in your profession. You can select a date range and print out your personal “report card” any time you need proof of your hours of continuing education. I print a copy of the past years’ activities when renewing my license. For those of you required to keep up your CCP requirements, it is an easy way to keep track of your three year cycle.
As most of you probably know, the AMT National Meeting and Convention scheduled to be held July 19-23, 2021 in Norfolk, VA has been cancelled due to COVID. However, it will now be a virtual meeting with continuing education available online AND on demand for those that cannot view the live sessions. While I will miss the camaraderie of networking with my AMT friends from around the nation during convention week, I am grateful to have the opportunity to hear speakers on current topics from the comfort of my recliner! Watch for more information from AMT National for registration information and how to access the sessions.
In closing, I hope you have received your COVID vaccines or are currently in the process. It is important as health care professionals that we show the public by our actions how to beat this virus. Get vaccinated, practice social distancing, wear your mask and practice good hand hygiene. Hope to “see” you virtually at the national convention, and in person at the WVSSAMT fall meeting in Fairmont!
