President's Message

Hello Summer!

As we get ready for a busy summer with vacation plans, I want to reflect on a successful year.

The WVSSAMT had two scientific meetings in 2023-2024 which offered a total of five CEUs. The meetings also offered an opportunity for professional networking and encouraged students in the healthcare professions certified by AMT to attend. The spring meeting had a virtual viewing option.

The AMT Annual Meeting will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, July 8-12. Janet Crigler and Melissa White will be attending as a WVSSAMT delegates. WVSSAMT Vice President and National AMT Board of Directors Member, Michael Waide and WVSSAMT Secretary and Judiciary Councillor, Kim Cheuvront will also be attending.

We are excited to have three Outstanding Student Writing Award winners from WV! Samantha Bostic 1st, Hayley Miller 2nd, and Natalie Poier placed 3rd. All are 2024 graduates of the Pierpont Community & Technical College MLT Program. Please encourage students to submit their technical writing for future competitions. Casey Merrell, another Pierpont MLT 2024 graduate, was awarded the Outstanding Medical Laboratory Student by AMT. It is important to involve students in AMT early during their education. They can learn, network, and become more engaged in their profession.

WVSSAMT also has several National AMT award winners! Michael Waide will be awarded the Exceptional Merit Award and Sherri Craddock, the Distinguished Achievement Award. Janet Crigler has been awarded the Order of the Golden Microscope. The Order of the Golden Microscope is the highest honor bestowed by AMT for outstanding organizational and professional contributions in the field of medical technology and to AMT. Congratulations to all the award winners!

WVSSAMT has been awarded the Leona Lyons Carter Award. The Leona Lyons Carter Award is given to the AMT state society that has demonstrated significant organizational development in the past year.

As you can see, we have had a great year! We would love for all AMT members in the WV area to join us at future events. Look for details on future meetings in late August. Enjoy your summer!

Respectfully,
Melissa White, MLS, AHI
President, WVSSAMT
