Eastern District Councillor’s Message

Summer/Fall 2025 Message

Dear Eastern District members,

Summer is quickly coming to an end, and fall is right around the corner. Our summer fun and vacations are quickly being replaced with work and school activities for our families.

Those of us who attended the AMT National Meeting in Pittsburgh had a great time. The days were packed with continuing education and meetings all week.

The first day ended with the Welcome party. All I can say is you all rocked the house with your dancing and energy. It was certainly a lively party! Lots of good food and laughter. Many new friendships were made as well as reconnecting with the old friends we’ve made over the years.

The second evening’s festivities was the banquet and awards presentations. Great job and your hard work and accomplishments are recognized and appreciated. I wish to congratulate our Eastern District award winners:

  • Pillar Award: Steve Stockford MLS Maine
  • Friends of AMT: James Monroe and Deshauna Valentine, both from New Jersey
  • GEM Award: Kimberly Cheuvront MLS West Virgina
    Ivette Rivera RMA New York
  • President’s Award: Melissa White MLS, AHI West Virgina

The district meeting was spent discussing what the state societies are doing to attract and retain new members. A lot of good information was put forth by those attending as their state delegates. The list was long and extensive. I will forward it to the State Societies leadership to disseminate to their members at their next meetings. Maybe there is something on the list you haven’t yet tried. Some states are having more success than others and some of that has to do with geographical locations and schools available to reach out to for student involvement.

We also passed around several cards to be signed and personal messages for Melissa Martin Bishop and her loved ones. I mailed those to her, and she sent me an email saying how much it brightened her day when they were received. It was just that extra boost she needed and brightened her day tremendously. She was so appreciative of us thinking of her and her family and that we thought enough of them to do this small act of kindness.

A few reminders for the upcoming fall months:

  1. Your State Society SOP’s are on HOLD for now.
  2. Don’t forget your fall messages to your state society web sites.
  3. Annual Audit is no longer required. Centralized banking has taken the need for that away. The yearly Proposed Budget 25 26 has replaced it. We no longer have starting and ending balances to keep track of.
    1. Please use money out of the sections you planned money for/ items you budgeted for. Do not spend money out of different categories to cover something else.
    2. Do not need approval for anything under $200.
    3. Document the changes needed to your proposed budget and document the approval of such changes
  4. The Treasures JOT form is no longer going to be used. No one is really using it and it doesn’t meet the State Society’s needs.
    1. Your Treasures Report will now consist of a copy of your latest credit card statement and a memo discussing the activities past and future.
  5. There should be an email blast from AMT concerning Committee interest and sign up shortly. If you are interested, complete the accompanying JOT form.
    1. REMEMBER: you should get confirmation back within 20 minutes of hitting submit as well as a PDF of your document for your records. IF YOU DO NOT: please contact AMT staterequest@americanmedtech.org and ask for them to send it to you as well as letting them know you are not getting your confirmation back. This needs to be corrected. Please do not assume it went through. This is for all JOT forms you submit.
  6. It is quickly coming up for award nominations of our well-deserving members and the work they do for their State Society. Award packets are due at midnight Nov. 31st. (Yes, another JOT form, so please do not wait for the last minute to submit in case there are issues, and it didn’t go through as it should. I would hate for someone not to be considered for their award because the JOT forms clinched). Please review the awards criteria and put lots of thought into your comments as to why the individual deserves this award. What have they done or are they doing for their State Society and AMT. Be specific with dates and duties. Remember, if it states it must be 10 years since a certain award, and 2025 is year 10, they are not eligible for the award till 2026. The 10th year isn’t completed till the 31 of December.
  7. Please purchase your meeting giveaways through the AMT store.
  8. Remember your hotel contracts for meetings need to go for review to the AMT meetings committee: meetings@americanmedtech.org. Allow a 2-week lead time for AMT staff to approve. (more if you can)
  9. AMT 2026 will be in Columbus, Ohio.
  10. The 2027 AMT meeting is being planned for the Caribbean. You will need a Passport for this if you are planning to attend. So, check those passports to see if you have them and if you need one, start your application early. It can take some time for the Government to process them.
  11. Please remember to share this with your State Society Officers and members.

Thank you all for your dedication to your state societies and AMT. You are all very important and deserve recognition for all you do.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have questions or need help.
